in order to have fellowship with God I need to suffer.

Adversity is the fertilizer for maturity and growth.

When hard times come will I run to God, or stiff arm Him?

There's a lot of hard times and moans that make up a Testimony.  

For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ
not only to believe in him, 

but also to suffer for him.

Philipians 1:29
